About the Role


This position will be an integral part of the SeaLink Travel Group ferries team. The Second Engineers’ primary function is to assist with the safe and secure operations of Company vessels. This will include working as part of a team, whilst maintaining excellence in safety and reliability at all times.


This position requires interpersonal and organisational skills and effective written and verbal communication skills are essential to this role.


A sound knowledge of the vessel is essential to all aspects of this role. You will be working in close conjunction with the Chief Engineer.


The Second Engineer will be expected to meet and exceed key performance indicators, whilst displaying a high level of work ethics.


This role requires energy, commitment, initiative, teamwork, multi-skilling and time management.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience



  • Senior First Aid
  • Sound working knowledge of the following:
    • Fitting and turning
    • Welding (oxy-arc-mig)
    • Boiler making
    • AC & DC Electrics
    • Transmission and braking systems
    • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Practical experience in shipbuilding and repair
  • Working knowledge of OH&S systems and regulations
  • Shipboard Safety Certificate
  • Experience in working in a fast paced team to reach goals
  • Experience in the Transport Industry


  • Trade Certificate
  • 2 years customer service experience
  • Experience in the Tourism Industry
  • Experience in liaising with suppliers and contractors
