An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent full time Team Leader Payroll to join our dedicated and enthusiastic team working in one of Australia's most dynamic travel companies with experience in processing multiple payrolls throughout the business with varied industrial instruments.


About the Role


Based in Adelaide and reporting to the Finance Manager, this role will work collaboratively in managing a small team with all payroll functions ensuring timely and accurate processing of end to end payroll and payroll related administration. This role is hands on as well as being a key intermediary in determining interpretation of industrial instruments and timely advice to the business.


In addition to the above, the role will have responsibility for the following:


Key Responsibilities

  • Leading a culture of Customer Service excellence by meeting/exceeding service level expectations
  • Overseeing maintenance of payroll and staff records; including processing new starters, terminations, and payroll adjustments
  • Overseeing all end to end weekly and fortnightly payrolls in Meridian Payroll software for multiple legal entities in Australia
  • Audit of current Meridian data across all entities of the business
  • Experience with the utilisation of TimeTEQ (Time and Attendance System)
  • Mentor and ensure the accurate interpretation and correct application of Enterprise Agreements (EA), Awards, and Employment Contracts
  • Providing leadership by supporting and implementing training and mentoring to develop the skills and expertise of team members
  • Checking the application of CPI and FWC - calculation of rates against underpinning awards
  • Support staff and management payroll queries
  • Payroll processing coverage and assistance
  • Helping with monthly reconciliations and journals
  • Check and manage the calculation and lodgement of payroll liabilities including payroll tax, group tax, super and WorkCover
  • Assistance with Deputy testing
  • Review and improve payroll policies and procedures
  • Administrator for the superannuation clearing house, attending Superannuation meetings, point of contact for new products and servicing current default fund
  • Acting as a first point of contact and investigating and resolving complex data integrity issues or complex superannuation and payroll enquiries

About You


We are looking for someone with excellent leadership skills focused on exceptional customer service with the understanding of payroll practices and their application. 


The successful applicant must possess the following characteristics and experience:

  • At least 5 years' experience in a payroll capacity and supervisory role
  • Demonstrated experience with end to end payroll processing and HR assistance experience
  • Experience in using Accounting Software (Accpac)
  • High level of attention to detail, analytical skills & accuracy
  • Logical thinking/problem solving
  • Strong time management, ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Ability to build rapport and communicate with key stakeholders of all levels
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
  • Experience in Meridian Micropay
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as with a degree of autonomy
  • Adaptability to change
  • Ability to initiate and drive improvements
  • Ability to manage and motivate team members
