Vessel Master - Groote Eylandt

 

SeaLink NT welcomes applications for a Vessel Master position with our new ferry operation from Groote Eylandt to Bickerton Island. It is a full-time permanent position with an immediate start. 

 

The successful applicant will be based on Groote Eylandt or is willing to relocate, accommodation arrangements are negotiable. You will be joining a small and committed team who aim to provide a safe and reliable transport link for the local indigenous community. The ordinary working hours will be Monday to Friday.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to relate to passengers from a variety of backgrounds and provide assistance
  • Strong work ethics and 'Can Do' Attitude
  • Be well presented at all times

These attributes will be complimented by experience and skills in the following areas:

  • Vessel Master <24m NC (Master class 5) qualification
  • Extensive navigation experience
  • Proven management experience
  • Knowledge of safety and maritime obligations
  • Senior First Aid and Resuscitation Qualification
  • Manual drivers licence
  • Proven track record of excellent customer service 
  • Strong verbal communication skills

About the role

 

The Vessel Master leads and manages safely and efficiently the daily operation of the vessel and ensures the delivery of high standard passenger services. Clear communication, physical fitness and the ability to work autonomously and follow instructions and safety guidelines is paramount in this role. 

Working in close conjunction with a Deckhand, duties will include:

  • Safe vessel navigation
  • Conducting drills and maintaining knowledge of the Vessel's Safety Management Systems
  • Conduct daily checks and paperwork
  • Leadership and mentoring of Deckhand
  • Assist with the safe, efficient and timely boarding and disembarkation of all passengers.
  • Cleaning duties at the end of shift
